Commissions ︎Ach y Fi

(2014)

As part of the Dylan Thomas Centenary festival, Peter Finnemore and Russell Roberts were commissioned by the National Library of Wales in 2014 to undertake research into the Library’s vast archive collection of Dylan Thomas’ writings, drawings, photographs and artifacts of Dylan. Ach y fi! Ach y fi! - A Play for Vices offers a wild journey through the archives of the Library and the imagined realm of Llareggub, here e drew upon Thomas’ preoccupations with sex and death, which form some of his imagery in the play Under Milk Wood. This eclectic exhibition included, projected film, wall text work, neon light, a collage of sketches & photographs and ephemera which offer narratives that reflect both factual and fictional dimensions of Thomas' creative world. Here, collage is important and refers to Thomas' brief encounter with Surrealism in the 1930s and the preoccupation with sex and death that can be found in some of the core themes and imagery that characterise 'Under Milk Wood' with its powerful dream sequences.
