Between the Lines, aims to reevaluate journalistic narratives, to elongate the act of looking and the contemplation of meaning. Here the pictorial life of the photograph / headline text has been stretched taut towards entropy/dissolution - form/formless – signal / noise. This creative dissolution of unlocking images becomes a revelatory transformative act, a solution, where new abstracted meanings are forged.
Began in 2007, this is an ongoing body of investigative photo-art work that sources contemporary news events. There is ambiguity and interchange within these imagery. The portrait with the open mouth is an existential constant throughout this project. Here, the mouth denotes a range of raw emotions and anxieties. A silent scream, an abstracted trace of existential muteness that is amplified to evoke the pictorial equivalent of a perceptual pitch of a scream.
